Position: Lawn & Garden Sales Associate - Seasonal or Part-Time

As a Lawn & Garden Sales Associate, your primary responsibility is to share your passion for growing things and enjoying the great Montana outdoors by serving our lawn and garden customers. You will greet customers to provide prompt, friendly, and courteous service in SLITERS’ lawn & garden area. You will utilize product and inventory knowledge to ensure customers leave with everything they need to complete their project, in turn, promoting high levels of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide customer service to lawn and garden customers, including plant recommendations,
  • cashiering and loading merchandise into customer vehicles
  • Ready the lawn and garden area for business opening including watering plants, rolling out & placing plant racks and other merchandise
  • Ensure the lawn and garden area is safe, clean, and straightened
  • Ensure lawn and garden area is tidy, including hosing off the dirt from hard surfaces and merchandise
  • and sweeping as needed
  • Stack and organize outdoor furniture, hose off grills and barbeques; ensure all product is priced
  • accurately
  • Work with manager to recognize and discount distressed plants appropriately
  • Assist with unloading plant trucks, bagged goods, de‐bagging hanging baskets, and labeling with
  • pricing and species
  • Monitor plants and water as needed
  • Inventory all items within the L&G fence, bagged goods and pallet items, landscape fabric, fencing,
  • tomato cages and other supports
  • Perform opening and closing activities including emptying trash, spot watering, and securing or
  • unlocking lawn and garden areas
  • Acknowledge customers and inquire about customer’s project or problem and provide a solution
  • Accurately complete sales and returns
  • Share information about sales and promotional items with customers
  • Direct customers to proper pick up area in the yard
  • Watch for theft
  • Adhere to store policies, procedures, and promotions
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Required skills
  • Willingness to approach customers and offer assistance to solve customer’s project problems
  • Safely operate power equipment, if required
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent listening and oral communication skills

This position requires standing and walking throughout the day and includes occasional heavy lifting

(often 50 lbs) with intermittent outdoor activities. May occasionally load merchandise into customer

vehicles.

Our operations are open 6 or 7 days per week, depending upon location. The schedule may require weekend and evening hours.
